Historic The Dalles Days features museum tours, guest speakers, a children's treasure hunt, drawings for historic photos of Celilo Falls, and a variety of live entertainment including The Trail Band and the Cascade Singers. The Trail Band will perform on Saturday, Oct. 2. This annual festival celebrates the heritage of The Dalles, county seat of Wasco County. It's held ever autumn. Five historical museums preserve the region's first US Army garrison, original courthouse of what was America's largest county, Povey Brothers stained glass, and other relics. Wasco County was the largest county ever created in the United States upon its formation in January 1854, stretching as far east as today's Yellowstone National Park, and including all of present-day Eastern Oregon. The Dalles was the end of the Overland Oregon Trail. Earlier, it served as campsite to the Lewis & Clark Expedition, on both the westward and return voyages of the Corps of Discovery. The Dalles is home to Oregon's oldest historical museum, Fort Dalles Museum, as well as the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Wasco County Historical Museum, regional interpretive center for the Columbia River Gorge. The Discovery Center this year opens "Cargo," a special exhibit on the Lewis & Clark Expedition.
